24 finalists gathered at Bettendorf High School for male/female ‘athlete of year’, while six teams were in contention for ‘team of the year.’
Rock Island’s Brea Beal was named female athlete of the year after becoming a three-time Gatorade Player of the Year, and the Western Big Six all-time leading scorer.
Assumption’s Julien Broderson was named male athlete of the year following his third-straight state wrestling title, as well as pitching for the 3A state champion baseball team, and playing linebacker for the football team.
Rock Island softball was named girls team of the year after grabbing the program’s first ever Class 4A state championship.
Central DeWitt boys golf claimed boys team of the year after becoming Class 3A state champions.
