Competition runs in the Hulke family.

“I came from a family where you earn what you work hard for so for both of us to be able to earn a spot together is amazing.”

Clair and Megan Hulke. Two sisters. Two years apart. Sharing the some love for sports. Starting together on the basketball court at Alleman.

“She’s always great at supporting me and telling me what I did wrong,” Megan said. “What I did good to help me get batter every way that I can.”

It always goes hand in hand. The teammate and the sister part,” Clair said. “It’s never been super hard to separate the two. It’s become one how we act and treat each other. We do have our moments where it gets competitive but it’s all friendly and been fun.

“They really appreciate each other more. It’s a really special thing to share something with your sibling,” head coach Steve Ford said. “Megan looks up to Clair. Clair is quite the leader. She’ll take a lot from Clair the next couple of years.

Like peanut butter and jelly, Clair’s offense, Megan’s defense, the perfect combo.

“I’m more a scorer and offensive minded. That’s how its always been,” Clair said. “She really came in and became that defensive player we really needed. She’s getting rebounds. She’s getting steals.

“Megan hasn’t done as much scoring as Clair but is capable of doing it. Her defense and rebounding has been incredible,” Ford said.

Both have come a long way from shooting 100 free throws in the driveway. While neither can decide who the better shooter is, Clair and Megan are creating lifeline memories.

“It’s really great for our relationship because we can both say we played together in high school,” Megan said. “These last two years have been great and will really miss her next year.

“When she came through high school, I wanted to let her know I’m always there for her any questions about plays, we would go home and draw them up,” Clair said. “We would talk through even if its outside of basketball. Just making sure I’m always there is the biggest thing.”

The Pioneers are in the mix for a western big six title and would be the first time since 2006 to win the conference.
