Jazz music will be playing across the quad cities this weekend. Thursday people in Davenport got a head start on the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival celebrations. Local bands played jazz for the Davenport Public Library’s annual Bix Porch Party. Families enjoyed live music, face painting and a magic show at the free event. Attendees say it’s a way to honor the legendary jazz player. “The race gets so much credit, which is awesome, but I think sometimes we forget about the history of Bix and what he actually did, so I really appreciate coming to enjoy the music,” said Amy Condon, who lives in Davenport. Proceeds from the event will benefit teen programs at the Davenport Public Library.
